Miroslav Lajčak Appointed New EU Ambassador to Switzerland

Miroslav Lajčak, the Special Representative for the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue, has been appointed as the new EU Ambassador to Switzerland

Miroslav Lajčak, the Slovak diplomat and Special Representative for the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue, has been appointed as the new EU Ambassador to Switzerland following the nomination of new EU delegation heads in 44 countries, including the Western Balkans, by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Josep Borrell.

The successor to Lajčak’s position as the representative for the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue will only be known after the formation of the new European Commission, following the June elections for the European Parliament.

Among the newly appointed European diplomats is the current Estonian Ambassador to the EU, Aivo Orav, who will serve as the Head of the EU Office and its Special Representative in Kosovo. Orav has previously held the position of Head of EU Delegations in North Macedonia and Montenegro.

Italian Luigi Soreca, the former EU Ambassador to Albania, will be the new Head of the EU Delegation in Sarajevo, while his predecessor, Johann Sattler from Bosnia and Herzegovina, will take up the role of EU Ambassador in Montenegro.

The EU Ambassador to North Macedonia will be Greek diplomat Rokas Mihalis, formerly the EU Ambassador to Mexico.
