Switzerland announced it would provide CHF 16 million to Slovenia over the next decade to support sustainable energy projects, as part of its CHF 1.2 billion contribution aimed at reducing EU disparities.
Officials said the initiative was especially urgent for Alpine countries facing the mounting impact of climate change.
Swiss minister Guy Parmelin stated that Alpine nations needed to cooperate more closely and take concrete action.
He explained that the funds would support solar energy on farmland, digital energy systems, and the development of local energy communities — a model he said Switzerland was also eager to pursue.
According to Slovenian officials, €2.2 million would be allocated to agrivoltaic pilot projects, while nearly €12 million would go toward replacing fossil fuel systems in public schools and universities with heat pumps and solar technology.
They added that €1.8 million would fund the digitalisation of local energy planning.
The two governments indicated that pilot projects had already begun and full implementation was expected by 2026.
