UniCredit Crowned Leader in Project Finance for Central and Eastern Europe

From Serbia to Sweden, UniCredit drives the region’s green and digital transformation

UniCredit has been named the top project finance bank in Central and Eastern Europe at the 17th EMEA Finance – Project Finance Awards, affirming its dominant role in funding strategic ventures across the region.

The Italian banking giant stood out for its innovative financial solutions supporting digitalisation and renewable energy projects in Serbia, Hungary, Sweden and Romania.

Among the standout deals: UniCredit backed Actis in acquiring Telekom Srbija’s tower infrastructure—a landmark telecom transaction in the Western Balkans—and helped Telekom debut on international bond markets, a first for any company in the region with a global credit rating.

Teodora Petkova, Head of CEE at UniCredit, said the award confirmed UniCredit’s strong position in Central and Eastern Europe and reflected both the bank’s deep understanding of local markets and the cross-border expertise of the Group.

With more than 11 million users, Telekom Srbija is one of the region’s telecom giants, and its transformation is emblematic of a broader push for sustainable infrastructure, with Actis—a global leader in responsible investing—at the forefront.
