Slovenia’s capital has gained a new connection to Germany as Eurowings, part of the Lufthansa Group, announced the launch of regular flights between Ljubljana and Düsseldorf.
The airline revealed that the route would operate three times a week—on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays—until late October, using Airbus A319 and A320 aircraft.
The first flight was welcomed at Ljubljana Airport on 12 April, with officials highlighting that the route’s launch was made possible through state subsidies.
Babett Stapel, CEO of Fraport Slovenia, mentioned that the new service marked a significant step forward in enhancing connectivity, with backing from the Ministry of Infrastructure.
Reinald Frankewitz, head of Eurowings’ airport and network relations, stated that the new link would allow Slovenian passengers to access over 110 destinations from Düsseldorf.
The launch forms part of a broader strategy to expand Slovenia’s air links, following similar state-supported routes to cities like Madrid and Copenhagen.
With 26 destinations now served from Ljubljana, officials are anticipating a record summer season ahead.
