Tomaž Kajzer has officially assumed leadership of Slovenia’s Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, concluding the formal handover process with former minister Tanja Fajon.
In a statement published by the ministry, Kajzer underlined the importance of continuity in foreign policy, particularly for smaller countries navigating an increasingly complex international environment. He said Slovenia’s diplomatic efforts should remain focused on protecting national interests while delivering concrete benefits for citizens and the country’s economy.
The new minister also thanked Fajon for her work during the previous mandate and wished her success in her future professional and personal endeavours, despite what he described as differing views on some issues.
The transition comes at a time when Slovenia is balancing its role within the European Union with growing geopolitical uncertainty, regional enlargement discussions and economic competitiveness challenges across Europe. Under Fajon’s leadership, Slovenian diplomacy maintained a strong European focus while remaining actively engaged in developments across Southeast Europe.
Kajzer’s first public remarks suggest that economic diplomacy and policy continuity will be among the defining themes of his tenure as Slovenia seeks to strengthen its position within the EU and maintain its influence in the wider region.
