Croatia to Open Long-Awaited National Children’s Hospital

Croatia is moving forward with the construction of its first National Children’s Hospital in Zagreb’s Blato district, a major healthcare project aimed at uniting pediatric services currently spread across multiple facilities.

A formal agreement between the Ministry of Health and construction consortium Kamgrad d.o.o. marks the start of the project, with the first phase expected to finish by the end of 2029. The total investment is €237 million. The new hospital will include general pediatrics, pediatric surgery, and pediatric oncology, and will be Croatia’s first “carbon-zero” hospital, emphasizing modern, environmentally responsible healthcare.

Health Minister Irena Hrstić called the project “a key step towards realizing a vision planned for more than a decade,” highlighting it as a strategic priority for the government. The hospital will also improve accessibility for children nationwide, with nearly one-third of patients currently traveling from outside the capital region.
