Air Serbia Celebrates First Female ATR Captain

Air Serbia has announced a groundbreaking achievement with the appointment of Vanja Marceta as the first female captain in its ATR fleet.

Thirty-two-year-old Marceta embarked on her inaugural flight as captain on the Belgrade-Budapest route on 14th July 14, following her promotion on 9th July.

Marceta joined Air Serbia in 2016, starting as a first officer on Boeing 737-300s before transitioning to ATR aircraft in 2022. Reflecting on her promotion, Marceta said, “Being appointed captain is a milestone in the life of every pilot; it’s considered the pinnacle of one’s career and the fulfillment of a lifelong dream.”

Air Serbia also acknowledged its pioneering female captains, including Neetu Rakic, who operates the wide-body Airbus A330-200 and is the first female captain on long-haul flights, and Vesna Aleksic, the first female captain of the airline’s Airbus A319 and A320 narrow-body aircraft.

The airline boasts six other female flight crew members and more than 300 cabin crew members.
