Albania and EBRD Sign Deal for Trans-Balkan Railway Project

In a landmark move aimed at enhancing regional transportation and economic ties, Albania has inked a significant agreement with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) to construct the Vorë - Hani i Hotit railway line, marking a major stride in the country's infrastructure development

In a significant stride towards enhancing regional connectivity and bolstering its transport infrastructure, Albania has inked a landmark agreement with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) for the construction of the Vorë – Hani i Hotit railway line. The pact, a testament to Albania’s ambitious infrastructure vision, was signed by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Belinda Balluku, alongside EBRD President, Odile Renaud-Basso.

Belinda Balluku, taking to social media to herald this development, stated that the new railway line is set to revolutionize communication between Albania and its neighboring states, streamlining and facilitating cross-border movement of citizens. Spanning 120 kilometers, the Vorë – Hani i Hotit railway not only promises to fortify Albania’s transport network but also serves as a pivotal link between Albania and Montenegro, enhancing economic and social ties between the two Balkan nations.

This venture marks the second major railway project undertaken by the Albanian Government, following the construction of the Tirana-Durra line, which notably includes a branch to the “Mother Teresa” international airport. The move underscores Albania’s commitment to upgrading its railway sector, a cornerstone in the nation’s broader strategy to modernize infrastructure and stimulate economic growth through improved regional connectivity.
