Dubrovnik Airport Renamed in Honor of Renowned Scientist Ruđer Bošković

The airport in the coastal city of Dubrovnik, situated on Croatia's picturesque Dalmatian coast, has been rechristened. Passengers will now arrive and depart from Ruđer Bošković Airport.

This renaming takes effect immediately following the official decision taken in June earlier this year to change the airport’s title.

The proposal to honor the esteemed scientist by naming the airport after Ruđer Bošković was supported by local assembly members and was enacted as the official resolution. The suggestion, originally put forward by County Prefect Nikola Dobroslavić during the 300th anniversary of Bošković’s birth, saw a resurgence of support from local governmental bodies, as chronicled by Slobodna Dalmacija.

Ruđer Bošković, born in Dubrovnik in 1711, is celebrated for his extensive scientific achievements, especially in physics and astronomy. He is widely recognized for his groundbreaking “Bošković’s atomic theory” in theoretical physics.
