Serbia Boasts Record Gas Reserves Ahead of Heating Season

Serbia enters the heating season well-prepared with historic levels of gas in storage, stated the Minister of Mining and Energy, Dubravka Đedović Handanović.

Speaking at the Southeast Europe Gas Forum 2023, she highlighted the nearing completion of a gas interconnection with Bulgaria. This move will enable Serbia to import gas not only from Russia but also from Azerbaijan and LNG terminals in Greece.

“We currently have close to 700 million cubic meters of gas in storage in Serbia and Hungary, a historic high,” Đedović Handanović noted, emphasizing the importance of storage capacity for supply security.

She added that the Serbia-Bulgaria gas interconnection, linking with the TAP and TANAP pipelines, is nearing completion with physical works set to end by mid-November. Parallel efforts are underway for necessary permits.

“By the end of November, we anticipate signing a memorandum of understanding between the energy ministries of Serbia and Azerbaijan and a commercial contract with an Azerbaijani supplier and JP Srbijagas. We expect supplies to begin by year-end,” the minister confirmed.
