IKEA Plans Major Expansion of Belgrade Store

Request submitted for environmental impact assessment on Bubanj Potok reconstruction project

IKEA has submitted a request to the Secretariat for Environmental Protection of the City of Belgrade, seeking a decision on whether an environmental impact assessment will be required for its proposed extension and reconstruction project at the Bubanj Potok location.

The project aims to expand the facility on its eastern side, adjacent to the highway, as well as on the rear side of the building. According to architectural plans prepared by the Novi Sad-based firm Augmentum, the total gross floor area of the department store is set to increase by approximately 6,000 m². This would bring the facility’s total area to 41,535.77 m², up from the current 35,604.36 m².

The proposed expansion reflects IKEA’s commitment to enhancing its offerings in the Serbian market, catering to growing customer demand while ensuring compliance with environmental standards. Further decisions on the project are expected following the review by the city’s environmental authorities.
