Tourism Boom in Macedonia as Foreign Visitors Surge

Macedonia is experiencing a remarkable upswing in tourism, with the latest figures revealing a surge in foreign visitors flocking to the Balkan gem

In September alone, the country welcomed 134,829 tourists—a 75.4% majority of whom were from abroad, according to the State Statistics Office. This marks a strong shift, underscoring Macedonia’s growing appeal on the international stage.

The month saw a total of 262,000 overnight stays, with 68.1% attributed to foreign guests. From January to September 2024, the overall number of tourists rose by 8.3% compared to the same period last year. While domestic tourism saw a slight dip of 1.2%, the number of foreign tourists rose by a robust 14.2%, highlighting Macedonia’s increasing visibility as a destination of choice.

In terms of overnight stays, a 5.0% rise was recorded during the same period, with foreign visitors accounting for an impressive 8.8% growth in stays, while domestic tourists contributed a more modest increase of 2.2%.

With its combination of rich history, vibrant culture, and stunning natural landscapes, Macedonia’s allure is clearly resonating with the global traveler—a promising signal for the nation’s tourism industry as it looks to expand its international reach.
