Sarajevo Airport to Launch Eight New Routes Amid Tourism Boost

Sarajevo Airport is set for a significant expansion, with eight new routes planned over the next two years as part of a push to enhance the city’s connectivity

Announced by the Government of the Sarajevo Canton, the new routes follow a public call from the Sarajevo Canton Tourism Association, offering subsidies to support airlines in launching additional services from the Bosnian capital.

Low-cost carrier Ryanair is set to unveil four new routes at the start of next month, adding to its recent Stockholm Arlanda service, which was launched for booking in October and is scheduled to begin in April 2025. Eurowings will join the expansion with flights from Berlin at the start of the summer season on March 30, and it will add routes to Hamburg, Düsseldorf, and Hannover in 2026. The airline already operates from Stuttgart and Cologne to Sarajevo.

In further developments, Norwegian will add seasonal flights from Copenhagen next year, complementing its existing routes from Stockholm and Oslo. Wizz Air will introduce a new seasonal service from Memmingen, running between June and August, while Swiss International Air Lines will link Geneva to Sarajevo in 2026, adding to its Zurich route. Other airlines, including SnnExpress and LOT Polish Airlines, have also applied to maintain their existing routes under the government’s subsidy program.

“These new routes are the result of incentive measures by the Government of Sarajevo Canton, the Ministry of Economy of Sarajevo Canton, the Sarajevo Canton Tourism Association, and Sarajevo Airport, all working together to improve the city’s accessibility as an attractive tourist destination,” the government said in a statement.

The expansion underscores Sarajevo’s growing appeal on the European travel map, with the new connections promising to boost tourism, ease access, and support economic growth in the region.
