Sarajevo Airport Soars

With passenger numbers soaring and bold plans for expansion, Sarajevo’s gateway to the skies is fast becoming a regional aviation powerhouse

Sarajevo International Airport is enjoying a remarkable ascent.

In the first quarter of 2025, the airport posted a 42% surge in passenger numbers, a 28% increase in flight operations, and an 8% rise in cargo volume compared to the same period last year.

The momentum has only continued into April and May, following a record-setting 2024.

Over 333,000 passengers passed through Sarajevo’s terminals in just three months, placing it second among Europe’s “medium-sized airports” (1–10 million passengers annually) for growth, according to ACI EUROPE.

The airport’s year-on-year passenger growth of 41.7% underscores a dramatic upward trajectory for Bosnia and Herzegovina’s aviation sector.

Acting Director Sanin Ramezić credits this leap to strategic partnerships and government support.

Looking ahead, the airport is set to unveil a new master plan, modernise its facilities, and construct a multi-storey car park — all part of its vision to deliver world-class service and cement its status as a driver of regional progress.
