Montenegro is embarking on a transformative €9 billion programme to overhaul its transport infrastructure, a move that promises to redefine its connections within the Western Balkans and with the European Union.
Announced during an Info Day event in Podgorica, the plan focuses on road and rail projects, including a key stretch of the motorway linking Mateševo to Andrijevica, part of the wider TEN-T corridor connecting the Balkans to the Eastern Mediterranean.
EU-backed investments, through the Western Balkans Investment Framework (WBIF), will fuel this ambitious development, alongside crucial reforms to foster an investor-friendly climate.
As Montenegro strives towards EU integration, the country aims to modernise its transport system, improve its railways, and upgrade ports such as Bar.
Prime Minister Milojko Spajić stressed that these improvements would reshape Montenegro’s infrastructure and bolster its regional role.

European construction firms are keen to collaborate, bringing their expertise to this burgeoning market. With strategic investments and shared knowledge, Montenegro’s infrastructural leap could bring long-lasting benefits, positioning it as a pivotal transport hub in the region.
