In a move signaling further expansion of global hospitality in the Adriatic, construction has commenced on a new Hilton hotel on the picturesque island of Ugljan, Croatia. This initiative marks a significant development in the region’s tourism sector, introducing a touch of international luxury to the serene landscapes of Ugljan.
Located in the heart of Preko, the new hotel is being erected on a 3,600-square-meter plot, the former site of Hotel Preko, which saw its demolition back in 2009. The project, spearheaded by HOK Insurance through its subsidiary, Preko Ltd., is poised to infuse €12 million into the local economy, with around 40% of the funding expected to be sourced from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, following approval by the Croatian Ministry of Tourism.
Kali Construction’s heavy machinery has been mobilized to clear the site, paving the way for what promises to be a 65-room designer haven, complete with a swimming pool, a restaurant, and a suite of luxury amenities characteristic of the Hilton brand.
This venture not only signifies a substantial investment by HOK Insurance but also integrates the new establishment into Hilton’s extensive portfolio under the Hilton franchise agreement. The hotel joins the ranks of three other Hilton establishments in Croatia managed by HOK Insurance through Zagreb City Hotels, including Canopy by Hilton Zagreb City Centre, DoubleTree by Hilton Zagreb, and Hilton Garden Inn Zagreb Radnička.
Jure Brižić, the Mayor of Preko Municipality, lauded the development as a milestone for Ugljan and the neighboring island of Pašman, envisioning it as a catalyst for upscale tourism and economic growth. Following the opening of the heritage hotel Dunatovi dvori two years prior, this new Hilton hotel, slated for completion by 2025, is set to further elevate Preko’s status as a burgeoning luxury destination in Croatia.
