Europa-Park Unveils New Croatian-Themed Complex

Europa-Park, Germany's largest amusement park, has unveiled its newest and 17th theme complex dedicated to Croatia, with a special highlight on the island of Hvar

The park, located in the town of Rust, is set to celebrate its 50th anniversary next year, attracting over six million visitors annually and employing around five thousand workers during peak season.

The Croatian section, particularly the representation of Hvar, owes its special place to the affection of the Mack family, who have chosen Hvar as their second home.

The grand opening was graced by high-profile attendees, including Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković, Minister of Tourism Tonči Glavina, Croatian diplomats in Germany, and notable figures like Mate Rimac and Baby Lasagna. Representatives from Hvar’s local government and tourist boards were also present, reflecting the significance of this cultural addition

A major attraction within the Croatian complex is Voltron, the latest of Europa-Park’s 14 rollercoasters. Designed in collaboration with Rimac Automobili, Voltron is the longest rollercoaster in Europe, boasting a three-minute ride that spans 1,385 meters, reaches heights of 32.5 meters, and features the world’s steepest launch at 105 degrees. This thrilling ride underscores the innovative spirit of the park and its dedication to offering cutting-edge attractions.

The Croatian area also features an interactive exhibition showcasing various cultural aspects of Croatia, including details about Ivan Vučetić and Hvar’s famous agave lace. Film frames inspired by Nikola Tesla’s story were shot in Stari Grad and Jelsa, adding a cinematic touch to the exhibit. Visitors can purchase a cookbook with Croatian recipes, enriched with photographs of Hvar, and enjoy lavender-flavored ice cream at the “Sunce and Lavender” confectionery. Refreshments can be savored on the terrace of the Arsenal, providing a taste of Croatian hospitality.

The Hvar Tourist Board expressed gratitude to the Mack family, particularly Miriam Mack, for their exceptional contribution to promoting Hvar. They anticipate that this new Croatian-themed unit will become one of the most visited sections of Europa-Park this year, further enhancing the park’s reputation as a premier destination for cultural and entertainment experiences.
