Croatia Launches Major Road Projects on Korčula and Pelješac

Investments Aim to Improve Connectivity, Safety, and Regional Development

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure Oleg Butković visited Dubrovnik-Neretva County to mark the start of two key transport projects. On Korčula, the €3.87 million Žrnovo–DC118 road will enhance traffic flow and safety along the 1.9-kilometre route. On the Pelješac Peninsula, the €39.5 million Orebić Bypass (Phase I) will redirect traffic away from the town centre, boosting local development and safety.

Speaking at the events, Butković highlighted the projects as part of a broader €150 million investment in southern Croatia, including new ports and access roads. He emphasized that, together with the Pelješac Bridge and the new Perna port, these initiatives are transforming the region’s transport infrastructure and supporting economic growth.

Local officials also noted that the projects create opportunities for urban development, tourism, and sustainable regional progress.

Croatian Roads President Ivica Budimir confirmed rapid progress on both islands, noting the technical challenges of the Orebić bypass but expressing confidence in the contractor. The bypass will connect with the future Perna port and extend toward Brijesta, forming part of a long-term strategy to ensure modern, safe, and efficient transport links across Pelješac and Korčula.
