Andrej Plenković Secures Another Term as HDZ Leader with Overwhelming Support

Andrej Plenković has been re-elected as the leader of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), winning an overwhelming 84,786 votes in the internal party elections

Plenković, who was the sole candidate, saw a higher voter turnout compared to the previous elections, with 84,940 HDZ members casting their ballots.

With 97.05% of the votes counted, it is clear that Plenković has retained his position with substantial support. Ivan Anušić, who ran for the position of vice president of the party, garnered approximately 80,000 votes.

In his address following the announcement of the unofficial results, Plenković expressed his gratitude to the party members for their strong turnout. “I am pleased to thank the members of HDZ for their significant participation in the elections. Forty percent of our members voted, which gives our leadership a substantial democratic legitimacy,” Plenković stated, as reported by N1.

Plenković emphasized the honor and responsibility of leading HDZ for another four years. “With this, we embark on another four-year cycle. We will strive to turn HDZ towards young and new voters. Five out of six of us are also in the Government of the Republic of Croatia, and we are working on our program with our partners,” he added.

He expressed his eagerness to continue collaborating with HDZ members, underscoring the party’s stature. “Regardless of the lack of opposing candidates, we approached this with the utmost seriousness, understanding the significance of leading HDZ,” Plenković concluded.

The re-election marks a continuation of Plenković’s leadership, as he aims to further solidify HDZ’s position and appeal to a broader electorate, particularly focusing on the younger demographic.
