John Turturro to Receive Honorary Heart of Sarajevo Award at 30th Sarajevo Film Festival

John Turturro, celebrated actor, director, and screenwriter, will be honoured with the Honorary Heart of Sarajevo Award at the 30th Sarajevo Film Festival

This accolade recognises his outstanding contributions to the film industry and his global influence.

“John Turturro’s career spans over four decades, marked by unforgettable performances in diverse roles,” said Jovan Marjanović, director of the Sarajevo Film Festival. “His dedication, versatility, and depth bring authenticity to every character he portrays, making him a joy to watch.”

A native of Brooklyn, Turturro studied at SUNY New Paltz and the Yale School of Drama. His impressive filmography includes collaborations with filmmakers like Spike Lee, Martin Scorsese, and the Coen brothers. 

Notable works include Do the Right Thing, The Color of Money, Quiz Show, and The Big Lebowski, where he played the iconic Jesus Quintana. He won the Best Actor Award at Cannes for his role in Barton Fink.

As a director and writer, Turturro’s films include Mac, which won the Camera D’Or at Cannes, Illuminata, Romance & Cigarettes, and Fading Gigolo. On television, he earned an Emmy for Monk and received nominations for Monday Night Mayhem, The Bronx is Burning, and The Night Of. He will also appear in season 2 of Apple’s Severance.

During the festival, Turturro will conduct a masterclass, sharing insights from his extensive career. He will also attend a special screening of Barton Fink. 

The 30th Sarajevo Film Festival will run from 16 to 23 August 2024.
