Serbia-Romania Gas Interconnection Set for Completion by 2026

Serbia and Romania are set to build a gas interconnection by 2026, aimed at diversifying energy supplies and enhancing regional security

Serbia and Romania are set to strengthen their energy ties with the construction of a gas interconnection pipeline, anticipated to be completed by 2026. The Memorandum of Understanding for this project is nearing adoption and is expected to be signed soon, according to statements from Serbia’s Minister of Mining and Energy, Dubravka Đedović Handanović, and the Romanian Ambassador, Silvia Davidoiu.

The ministers highlighted the interconnection’s importance in diversifying gas supply sources and enhancing the security of supply to consumers. The construction of the 12.8-kilometer section from Mokrin to the Romanian border is projected to cost €12 million.

This infrastructure endeavor is not only a testament to the enduring friendship and doubled trade volumes over the last decade between the two nations but also underscores their commitment to significant energy projects of mutual interest, backed by the European Union.
