Ivo Usmiani Crowned Croatia’s Entrepreneur of the Year by EY

In a significant accolade within Croatia's business community, Ivo Usmiani, the driving force behind JGL Group, has been named the EY Entrepreneur of the Year for 2023

This recognition came during the ninth edition of the Croatian segment of the global EY Entrepreneur of the Year program, celebrating Usmiani’s standout achievements in the business realm. The decision, made by an independent jury, placed Usmiani at the pinnacle of a competitive field, comprising 33 contenders from 28 notable domestic companies, and ultimately among the top seven finalists spanning five distinguished firms.

Usmiani’s journey to this prestigious title is a testament to his enduring influence in the pharmaceutical sector. As the founder of JGL Grupa, he pioneered the first private pharmaceutical joint-stock company in Croatia in 1991, steering the firm to its current global stature. Today, JGL operates across 60 markets worldwide, with exports comprising nearly 85 percent of its output. The company, under Usmiani’s leadership, has grown to employ around 1,300 individuals, boasting a portfolio of over 300 products and 150 brands.

Reflecting on the honor, Usmiani attributed the success to his team, emphasizing the collective effort driving the company’s innovative and dynamic operations. His accolade not only highlights individual entrepreneurial spirit but also signifies the broader achievements of the Croatian business sector on the international stage.

Usmiani is now set to represent his country at the EY World Entrepreneur of the Year finals in Monaco this June, showcasing the prowess and potential of Croatian enterprise on a global platform.
