Croatia Leads EU in Retail Sales Growth for November

In November, Croatia continued to be among the EU countries with the highest growth in retail sales, while Europeans on average slightly reduced their consumption, as indicated by data from the European Statistical Office.

In the Eurozone, retail sales in November fell by 0.3 percent compared to October, when it had, according to revised data, increased by 0.4 percent, as shown by seasonally adjusted data from Eurostat.

At the Union level, sales decreased by 0.2 percent, after having increased by 0.5 percent in October, according to revised data.

The largest decline in November was in the retail sale of non-food products, by 0.4 percent in the Eurozone and by 0.3 percent in the EU.

There was also a slight decrease in retail trade of food, beverages, and tobacco products, by 0.1 percent in both areas.

Conversely, sales at petrol stations increased, by 1.4 percent in the Eurozone and by 0.4 percent in the EU.

In November, according to seasonally adjusted data, the most significant decrease in retail sales was in Germany, by 2.5 percent.

Luxembourg and Austria followed with decreases in sales by 1.4 percent and 0.7 percent, respectively.

The highest increase in sales was in Portugal, by 3.1 percent.

Following were Slovenia and Croatia with a retail sales growth of three percent compared to October. Croatia was also in the group of countries with the strongest monthly sales growth in October, at 3.1 percent.
