Montenegro is looking to deepen energy cooperation with Sweden as it moves from sector reforms towards investment and technological modernisation. Energy and Mining Minister Admir Šahmanović and Swedish Ambassador Charlotte Sammelin discussed opportunities to connect Montenegrin institutions and companies with Swedish expertise in renewable energy, energy efficiency, decarbonisation and new technologies.
Šahmanović said Montenegro had entered a phase in which energy reforms needed to be matched by concrete investment and modern technological solutions. Sweden’s experience, he noted, is particularly relevant because of its ability to link the energy transition with economic development, competitiveness and improved quality of life.
The talks also covered Montenegro’s integration into the European energy market and the broader transformation of its energy system.
The meeting pointed towards more practical cooperation between institutions, experts and businesses from the two countries. The Swedish delegation, which included representatives of Business Sweden and technology company Scytales, expressed readiness to contribute expertise and support stronger commercial links, while Montenegro signalled openness to new partnerships in the development of a more sustainable energy sector.
