Montenegro is seeking to strengthen cooperation with Denmark in renewable energy and the green transition as it looks to attract new investment and international expertise into its rapidly evolving energy sector.
During a meeting with Denmark’s non-resident Ambassador to Montenegro, Pernille Dahler Kardel, Minister of Energy and Mining Admir Šahmanović highlighted that Montenegro has completed key legislative reforms, creating a regulatory framework aligned with European Union standards and providing investors with conditions comparable to those in EU member states.
“Having modernised our legislative framework, our focus is now on attracting new technologies, knowledge and investments that will enable Montenegro to transform its exceptional renewable energy potential into a new development opportunity. We are looking for partners who will help us build a modern, sustainable and competitive energy sector,” Šahmanović said.
The discussions focused on expanding bilateral cooperation in renewable energy, energy storage and smart energy systems. The two sides also explored opportunities to connect Montenegro’s energy sector with Danish companies developing advanced clean energy technologies.
Both officials agreed that there is considerable potential to deepen cooperation, particularly given Denmark’s global leadership in wind energy and innovative low-carbon technologies. They also expressed readiness to intensify institutional and business contacts and examine concrete partnership models that could support new energy projects in Montenegro.
Šahmanović reaffirmed that attracting reputable international partners remains a key priority as Montenegro pursues the modernisation of its energy sector and advances its green transition objectives.
