Croatia has cancelled the upcoming Brdo-Brijuni summit, a high-level regional initiative designed to strengthen cooperation among Southeast European leaders, following controversy surrounding the planned participation of Aleksandar Vučić. The decision highlights ongoing political sensitivities in the region, where historical and diplomatic disputes continue to shape interstate relations.
The Brdo-Brijuni process, jointly launched by Slovenia and Croatia, has traditionally served as a platform for dialogue on EU integration and regional stability.
However, disagreements linked to Vučić’s visit prompted Zagreb to call off the meeting, underlining the fragility of consensus even within established diplomatic frameworks.
The cancellation reflects broader challenges facing regional cooperation in the Western Balkans, where political tensions can quickly overshadow multilateral efforts. It also raises questions about the future effectiveness of such initiatives at a time when the region is under renewed pressure to advance reforms and maintain constructive dialogue.
