Croatia’s Wheat Yields Rise 9.2%

Bumper 2025 season strengthens food security and export potential

Croatia is reaping the benefits of a strong 2025 agricultural season, with wheat output rising by 9.2% to an estimated 890,000 tonnes, according to first estimates by the national statistics office. The upward trend extends to other key cereals, including oats and barley, reinforcing optimism in the country’s agri-food sector.

Officials credit favourable weather, improved seed varieties, and greater fertiliser efficiency for the boost.

As global food prices remain volatile, Croatia’s domestic stability and export capacity are seen as increasingly important—both for local processors and regional trade.

While agriculture represents a modest share of Croatia’s overall GDP, its strategic importance has grown amid climate challenges and renewed interest in food sovereignty across Europe. The 2025 numbers offer a rare bright spot and a signal that with smart policy, the sector can punch above its weight.
