Croatian Film Wins European Oscar for Best Short Film

Award-winning Croatian film The Man Who Could Not Remain Silent delivers a gripping tale of courage and identity, earning European acclaim

Following its Palme d’Or triumph at the Cannes Film Festival, the Croatian film The Man Who Couldn’t Be Silent has now claimed the prestigious European Film Academy award for Best Short Film.

The film, based on a true story, unfolds on the “Lovćen” train running from Belgrade to Bar. Armed Serbian paramilitary forces halted the train at Štrpci station, identifying Muslim passengers based on their names. Amid the tense silence, one passenger breaks it, driving the story’s emotional core.

This recognition by the European Film Academy cements the film’s status as a standout in European cinema, highlighting its powerful narrative and impact.
