Prevc Siblings To Carry Slovenia’s Flag At Milano Cortina 2026 Opening Ceremony

Nika and Domen Prevc are flag bearers as Slovenia heads to Italy

Slovenian ski jumping stars and siblings Nika and Domen Prevc have been selected as the country’s flag bearers for the opening ceremony of the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games, set to take place on 6 February. The choice reflects their exceptional form this season, with both athletes leading the overall World Cup standings and standing out as Slovenia’s strongest gold medal hopes.

Domen Prevc enters the Games as the reigning world flying champion, while both he and Nika are current world record holders and world champions following their triumphs at the 2025 Nordic World Ski Championships in Trondheim.

They will carry the national flag during the ceremony segment held in Predazzo, the venue for ski jumping events, while the main opening ceremony will take place at San Siro Stadium in Milan. Additional athlete ceremonies are also planned in Cortina d’Ampezzo and Livigno. This marks a historic first for Slovenia, as siblings have never before shared the honour of flag bearers at an Olympic opening ceremony.

Slovenia will compete in Milano Cortina with a delegation of 37 athletes, its smallest Winter Olympic team since Nagano 1998. The squad includes 19 men and 18 women, with biathlon being the most represented discipline, followed by alpine skiing. The announcement of the flag bearers coincided with the start of the Olympic torch relay across Slovenia, which will conclude on 8 February in Cortina d’Ampezzo with the opening of Slovenia House, symbolically ushering the country into the Games.
