Slovenia Becomes First EU Country to Limit Fuel Purchases Per Vehicle

The measure is aimed at curbing soaring fuel prices and ensuring stable supplies amid global market uncertainties.

Under the new rules, households and businesses will face daily fuel purchase limits, although emergency services, essential transport, and certain professional sectors are exempt. The government stressed that the restriction is temporary and will be reassessed as market conditions evolve.

Authorities explained that the policy is part of a broader strategy to protect consumers from sharp price fluctuations and to promote more efficient use of fuel.

The move has sparked mixed reactions, with some praising it as a necessary intervention, while others worry about potential inconveniences for drivers and logistics companies.

Slovenian officials emphasized that energy security remains a top priority and that the government will continue monitoring fuel availability, prices, and the impact of the restrictions on both households and the economy.
