Golob Wins Election in Slovenia

Prime Minister secures narrow victory by just one seat

Prime Minister Robert Golob and his Freedom Movement (GS) have narrowly won Slovenia’s parliamentary elections, finishing just one seat ahead of the opposition Slovenian Democratic Party (SDS) led by Janez Janša. With 29 seats compared to SDS’s 28 in the 90-member parliament, the result marks a tight race and a significant drop from Golob’s previous electoral strength.

Despite the win, the outcome complicates government formation in Slovenia. Golob’s current coalition partners no longer hold a parliamentary majority, meaning negotiations with additional parties will be necessary to form a stable government.

Smaller parties are expected to play a key role in the talks.

Golob declared victory and promised to work toward a stable future, stressing that Slovenia’s sovereignty will not be up for negotiation. Analysts note that the razor-thin margin reflects a more fragmented political landscape, suggesting potentially difficult coalition talks in the weeks ahead.
