Empowering Sustainability in the Balkans

The ESG Academy empowers businesses in the Western Balkans to adopt responsible governance, driving regional economic sustainability and global competitiveness

In a landmark move to advance sustainable practices across the Western Balkans, the newly established Western Balkans ESG Foundation has unveiled its ESG Academy.

Launched in April 2024, the foundation seeks to integrate environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards into the very fabric of the region’s economies.

At an event held at ICT Hub, Milena Laković, the foundation’s director and co-founder, detailed the Academy’s mission to offer a comprehensive programme aimed at businesses eager to embrace responsible corporate governance.

With two annual intakes, participants will engage in 14 days of in-depth training over four months, culminating in an ESG Practices Certificate.

Esteemed members of the foundation’s Advisory Board, including environmental expert Dr. Anđelka Mihajlov and Professor Dr. Dragan Lončar, lent their expertise to a panel discussion, emphasising the importance of transparency, risk mitigation, and societal benefit through robust ESG reporting.

The initiative has already attracted a diverse coalition of partners, including global leaders like Morningstar Sustainalytics and giants such as AIK Bank and Procredit Bank.

With this move, the foundation is setting the stage for the Western Balkans to become a hub of sustainable business practices, aligning regional economies with global standards.
