Serbia-Austria Joint Venture to Boost Balkan Logistics

Transfera and the Rail Cargo Group have formed a joint venture in Belgrade to enhance intermodal transport and logistics in the Western Balkans

A significant collaboration between Serbia’s Transfera, one of the largest logistics companies in the region, and the Rail Cargo Group, the freight division of the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB), has led to the establishment of a joint company in Belgrade. The partnership, sealed at the Austrian Embassy, aims to advance intermodal transport development in the Western Balkans, enhancing the logistic sector’s efficiency and sustainability.

The Austrian Ambassador to Serbia, His Excellency Christian Ebner, lauded the initiative as pivotal for regional development and crucial in fostering improved bilateral relations between Serbia and Austria. Transfera’s CEO, Duško Radović, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, predicting that it will set new industry standards in logistics.

Intermodal transport is currently underutilized in Serbia, and the new company is expected to overcome the limitations of road transport by leveraging modernized rail infrastructure. Christoph Grasl of Rail Cargo Group highlighted the complementary nature of this collaboration, suggesting that it will offer sustainable logistics solutions and help Serbian industry transition to rail transport.

Karl Acinger from Rail Cargo Logistics Austria also emphasized the future potential of intermodal transport, expressing eagerness to develop joint solutions and continue successful operations in the Balkans.
