Pegasus Airlines Expands in the Balkans with Six New Routes

Pegasus Airlines, the Turkish budget carrier, is set to expand its presence in the Balkans by launching six new routes to the former Yugoslav region next year.

In its latest move, the airline will introduce new flights to Podgorica, adding to its already planned routes to Zagreb, Pristina, Skopje, and Sarajevo. Beginning in February, Podgorica will welcome two new connections from Ankara and Izmir, supplementing the existing service from Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen.

This expansion into Montenegro comes less than a year after Pegasus Airlines received the green light from regulatory bodies to begin operations in the country. However, the airline’s growth in the region is still challenged by stringent bilateral agreements and air service arrangements that Turkey maintains with individual European Union member states and other regional countries. Despite these regulatory hurdles, Pegasus Airlines is making significant strides in increasing its footprint across the Balkans.
