3,000 New Jobs as Chinese Textile Giant Sets Up in Serbia

China’s leading textile company Guan Nan is set to invest in Serbia, bringing 3,000 new jobs and marking its first venture in Europe.

The announcement came after a meeting between the company’s president, Cai Shuqing, and Serbia’s Minister of Economy, Adrijana Mesarović, in Keqiao, China — one of the country’s main textile hubs.

The €100-hectare industrial park will house several factories producing everything from thread to finished garments. Locations under consideration include Ćuprija and Vranje.

The project, supported by a free-trade agreement between Serbia and China, will allow duty-free import of raw materials and export of finished products to markets covered by Serbia’s trade deals.

Mesarović called the deal a “major milestone” for Serbia’s textile revival and digital transformation goals. Alongside this, the Chinese company Shengqi, already operating in Kragujevac, announced plans to expand its facilities and hire up to 300 new workers — further strengthening industrial ties between the two countries.
