Serbia’s Aviation Authority Donates Millions to Boost Airport Security

A strategic investment to tighten airport security and enhance training at Niš’s key air hub

In a move aimed at bolstering air travel safety, Serbia’s Civil Aviation Directorate has donated 11 million dinars to the state-owned company Airports of Serbia, which operates the Niš airport.

The funds will go toward purchasing a high-resolution mobile X-ray scanner designed to inspect unattended luggage, as well as a simulator for training security screening staff.

According to the Directorate, the donation follows a formal request by Airports of Serbia and has already been approved within the agency’s 2025 financial plan, backed by the Serbian government.

The investment is seen as a critical step in enhancing operational readiness and safety standards at one of the country’s rising regional airports.

The move signals Serbia’s broader commitment to modernising its aviation infrastructure in line with EU security practices—positioning Niš as a safer and more competitive gateway to the Balkans.
