Travnik Cheese Gains Protected Geographical Status

Travnik cheese, a traditional delicacy from Bosnia and Herzegovina, is set to receive official certification of protected geographical origin, a move expected to significantly enhance its market position and strengthen its regional identity

The announcement was made during a press conference held at the Travnik Municipality building on Wednesday, marking the completion of the certification process in collaboration with the Food Safety Agency of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The initiative, supported by the Ministry of Agriculture and local institutions, is seen as a step towards safeguarding both unique local produce and livestock native to the Travnik area, with long-term plans for further development in tourism and agriculture.

Mayor Kenan Dautovic highlighted the importance of this certification, noting it as a first for the Travnik region.

He emphasised that the protection of local agricultural products, including Travnik cheese, will play a crucial role in bolstering rural tourism, particularly on the eastern slopes of Mount Vlašić.
