BRICS Expands to Include Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand

Global bloc strengthens ties with Southeast Asia in strategic expansion

The BRICS economic coalition, comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, will welcome three new members starting January 1. Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand will join the bloc as partner countries, reflecting its ambition to deepen cooperation across the Global South.

Indonesia’s inclusion brings substantial demographic and economic power as the fourth most populous nation globally, while Malaysia and Thailand reinforce BRICS’ focus on Southeast Asia, one of the fastest-growing economic regions.

With this expansion, BRICS now includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand, further solidifying its status as a major global economic coalition.
