The collaboration centres around the construction of the 400 KV “Pljevlja-Bajina Bašta-Višegrad” interconnector, a key component of the ongoing Trans-Balkan Corridor project. This initiative seeks to bolster the electric transmission conditions between the northern and southern sectors of the region.
The overarching goal is to further integrate the electric market, aligning closely with European energy policy priorities.
The accord was signed by the Chief Executives of CGES and EMS, Ivan Asanović and Jelena Matejić. Both leaders expressed that this undertaking would substantially reinforce the mutual cooperation between the two firms, adhering to national legislation and international treaties of Serbia and Montenegro.
Sources close to the matter have hinted at a high-calibre partnership on the horizon, encompassing information exchange, knowledge-sharing, and organising collective preliminary actions. Mutual support is cited as a projected benefit, ensuring the project’s fruitful completion to the benefit of both nations.
Both CGES and Elektromreža Srbije are poised to enhance their transmission service quality, ensuring full compliance with European standards. Additionally, they are eager to play an active role in the regional electric market of Southeast Europe. Notably, integrating renewable energy sources stands out as a prime advantage of this cooperation.
For context, the 400 kV dual-system overhead line “Pljevlja – Bajina Bašta – Višegrad”, as part of the Trans-Balkan Corridor, ensures improved electrical connectivity amongst Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, and broader Europe.
