Zagreb Soars as Summer Star of Central Europe

Croatia’s capital sees sharp rise in tourism, cementing its status as a thriving year-round city break destination

Zagreb has quietly become one of Europe’s most dynamic urban getaways.

According to the city’s tourist board, the Croatian capital recorded a 2% rise in arrivals and an 8% jump in overnight stays this July, welcoming over 151,000 visitors and nearly 282,000 overnight bookings.

Top guests came from Germany, the US, and Spain—markets that also led in total nights spent.

With more than 767,000 arrivals and 1.5 million overnights in the first seven months of 2025, Zagreb continues its upward trend, blending cultural charm with a growing appeal in business tourism.

Tourism chief Martina Bienenfeld said that Zagreb was confirming its position as a sustainable and competitive urban destination, attributing the success to improved content, enhanced quality, and targeted promotional efforts.

The city’s strong “city break” identity, especially popular with American and German travellers, puts it at the forefront of Croatian tourism—one that looks set to flourish further, geopolitics permitting.
