UN Business and Human Rights Working Group Visits Serbia’s Zijin Copper Operations

Representatives of the UN Working Group on Business and Human Rights, Lira Jakulevičijene and Robert McCorkodejl, visited Serbia’s Zijin Copper operations in Bor.

The delegation toured the metallurgical complex and met with company management to gain firsthand insights into the company’s operations, future plans, and efforts to implement UN principles regarding human rights and environmental protection.

Jakulevičijene emphasized the Working Group’s independent mandate to collect on-the-ground information, balancing the positive impacts of corporate activity with areas that require improvement.

She highlighted the significant influence of the mining sector on both human rights and the environment, stressing the importance of considering all aspects of business operations.

The visit reflects ongoing international attention to responsible business practices in Serbia’s mining sector and underscores the need for continued dialogue between companies, regulators, and human rights bodies.
