Germany, Italy, and Austria Remain Key Markets for Slovenian Tourism

Slovenian Tourist Board highlights growth potential despite economic and political challenges

Germany, Italy, and Austria continue to be the most significant sources of foreign tourists for Slovenia, despite the economic and political uncertainties facing all three countries. The Slovenian Tourist Board believes there is room for growth in these markets but cautions against complacency.

In the first eleven months of 2024, Italians accounted for one in ten foreign arrivals, with their numbers rising nearly 4% compared to the previous year. In November alone, they were the largest group of foreign visitors, according to data from Slovenia’s Statistics Office.

German tourists, known for their interest in outdoor activities, health, and well-being, remain a strong focus for Slovenian tourism providers. “Germans care deeply about sustainability, and sustainable services are a major trend in the German market,” said a representative from the Slovenian Tourist Board.

Between January and November 2024, more than 700,000 Germans visited Slovenia, a 3% increase year-on-year. They accounted for over 10% of all arrivals and 15% of all foreign visitors.

Slovenia’s ability to align its offerings with the preferences of these key markets highlights its continued appeal and strategic positioning as a sustainable and versatile tourist destination.
