Adverse weather has reduced France’s grape harvest by 23% compared to last year, according to the latest estimate from the Ministry of Agriculture.
The ministry’s forecast of 37 million hectoliters of wine for this year would bring production close to record lows seen in 2017 and 2021, years also marked by weather-related challenges.
If confirmed, the estimate represents a 17% decline in wine production compared to the five-year average.
All types of French wine are affected by the anticipated lower harvest, with top wine regions particularly hard hit.
