Lidl Expands in Bosnia and Herzegovina with Major Investment Plans

Lidl is embarking on a major expansion in Bosnia and Herzegovina, with plans to significantly increase its presence and investment in the region

German retail giant Lidl is actively constructing facilities and preparing documentation for new locations in several cities across Bosnia and Herzegovina. The company aims to open ten additional outlets next year and to continue increasing the number of stores annually, potentially reaching between 70 and 80 branches within a decade.

When the first stores open, Lidl plans to employ around 1,500 people, with an initial investment exceeding half a billion marks. Construction is already underway in cities like Sarajevo and Bijeljina, and the company is in the process of obtaining permits in other locations, such as East Sarajevo. Recently, a regulatory plan was approved in the municipality of East Ilidža, where Lidl will build a 2,400-square-meter facility. In Sarajevo, construction has begun in the Halilovići neighbourhood, with the new store expected to be completed within six months.

A significant milestone in Lidl’s investment in Bosnia and Herzegovina is the commencement of a distribution centre in Lepenica near Kiseljak. Over the next two years, a modern 60,000-square-meter logistics centre will be built, representing an investment of over 100 million euros. This centre will provide more than 200 jobs, contributing significantly to the local community.
