Slovenians Embrace the Digital Wallet

With trust in online security surging, Slovenians are swiftly swapping cash and cards for clicks and fingerprints

In a quiet but unmistakable shift, Slovenians are rewriting their relationship with money.

According to the latest Masterindex survey by Mediana for Mastercard, four in five now view online shopping as secure, and nearly 90% have made at least one online purchase in the past three months.

Debit cards remain dominant, with 85% using one weekly, yet the real momentum lies elsewhere — in the palm of their hands.

Mobile payments are gaining unprecedented traction: 61% have used a phone to pay in shops or petrol stations, and almost half have done so in restaurants.

Biometric authentication is fuelling this trend — over 20% already use fingerprints to validate transactions.

While a small segment remains wary of digital shopping, citing distrust in sellers and slow dispute resolution, the broader picture is one of increasing confidence.

For Slovenians, convenience and control are king, and their phones are fast becoming their wallets.
