Major Investment to Revitalize Komiža’s Fishing Port

Modernization efforts backed by millions will transform Komiža’s fishing infrastructure, securing a sustainable future for local fishers and boosting the region’s economy

Komiža, a picturesque fishing village on the island of Vis, is set for a transformation that will strengthen its economy and safeguard its fishing heritage.

With a hefty €13.8 million investment from the Ministry of Agriculture and the state budget, the project aims to modernize the island’s vital infrastructure, enhancing operational efficiency and safety for the local fishing community.

New docks, better facilities, and a dedicated space for tourism will create a harmonious balance between two key industries.

Environmental sustainability is at the heart of the development, ensuring that the rich marine life of the region is preserved for future generations.

The ambitious project will unfold over seven stages, with the first phase focusing on essential infrastructure, including a primary embankment and operational quays.

This long-awaited development has the backing of local leaders, including Prefect Blaženko Boban, who highlighted its significance for both the fishing sector and the broader economy.

With successful projects like the Brižine fishing port, Komiža’s new hub promises to elevate local living standards and provide a model for sustainable coastal development.
