Litostroj Power to Drive Norway’s Biggest Pumped-Storage Hydropower Project

Slovenian engineering company Litostroj Power has signed a contract with Norwegian electricity producer Hydro Energy to supply a pump turbine and related auxiliary systems for the Illvatn pumped-storage hydropower plant in western Norway. The project, located in the municipality of Luster, is one of the largest current energy investments in the region and Hydro Energy’s biggest investment in the past 20 years. The plant is expected to become operational in 2030, with an overall investment of around €220 million (2.5 billion Norwegian crowns).

As part of the Czech industrial group Wikov, Litostroj Power will handle the full technological scope of the project, including installation, commissioning, and final handover of the equipment.

“The Illvatn project is a major achievement for us as it marks our return to Norway, where we have successfully delivered projects in the past,” said CEO Jure Andročec.

With over 250 employees in Slovenia, Litostroj Power is one of Europe’s leading manufacturers of turbines for medium and large hydro plants. The company exports more than 20 turbines annually, with exports accounting for 99% of its revenue, and is expanding its presence in Norway following strong markets in Sweden and Finland.
