Intersport Austria to Acquire Intersport ISI

Deal marks another ownership change for one of the former Yugoslavia’s largest sports retailers

Intersport ISI, the company operating the Intersport sporting goods chain in Slovenia and across the wider former Yugoslav region, is set to change hands once again. Intersport Austria will acquire the business from its current owner, Polish private equity fund Enterprise Investors, the fund announced on January 15. The value of the transaction was not disclosed and remains subject to approval by competition authorities.

With 110 company-owned stores and a further 40 sub-franchise locations, Intersport ISI ranks among the largest sports retailers in Southeast Europe. The group is the market leader in Slovenia and among the top three players in Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro, while also operating through franchise partners in Serbia, North Macedonia, Albania and Kosovo*.

The company generated close to €140 million in sales last year, driven by the optimisation of its retail network and the expansion of its e-commerce operations.

The deal significantly strengthens Intersport Austria’s regional footprint. Already a market leader in Austria and in licensed markets including Hungary, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic, the group will manage more than 500 stores across 12 countries following the acquisition. With nearly €800 million in revenue generated last year across its existing markets, the transaction is expected to lift total group sales to €1 billion for the first time, underscoring its growing influence within the European Intersport network.
