Who is Siniša Karan, the Newly Elected President of Republika Srpska?

Siniša Karan was recently elected President of Republika Srpska (RS), positioning him as one of the closest collaborators of political leader Milorad Dodik. Karan has played a central role in planning RS secession initiatives and has headed the Commission for the RS Day referendum, which was previously declared unconstitutional by Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Constitutional Court.

Karan has a long career in RS institutions, including senior positions in the Ministry of Interior and SIPA’s Financial Intelligence Department. He has also been involved in high-profile legal cases and investigations concerning RS governance, demonstrating loyalty to Dodik and his policies. Despite controversies surrounding his past, Karan remains a key operative in Dodik’s political strategy and a central figure in RS’s ongoing political developments.
