Strike at Serbian Agricultural Institute Over Pay and Health Coverage

Employees at the Institute for Field and Vegetable Crops in Novi Sad staged a one-day strike demanding fairer wages and additional health insurance.

Many staff work with chemicals and pesticides, and some have faced serious health issues, including tumors.

Union representatives emphasized that over half the employees earn near minimum wage, while the institute’s seed production has declined.

The strike highlights workers’ push for better conditions, fair compensation, and management accountability.

Officials have urged the institute’s management to engage in meaningful negotiations, warning that unresolved issues could lead to further industrial actions if employees’ demands are not addressed.
